Major Transits

Major transits are transits of the outer planets (Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn) by major aspect (conjunction, opposition, square, trine, sextile) through time, to the personal points (Midheaven, Ascendant, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) in one's natal chart.

Jupiter transits, which are more numerous and have shorter durations than the more outer planet transits, are useful to watch, as well. Mars and Venus transits are significant when retrograde and/or stationary, as during these periods, their effects will last a week or two or three, rather than the normal day or two.

Semisquares and sesquiquadrates are considered to be minor aspects, with effects like squares, only generally less urgent and more subtle than squares. Still, it is wise to be aware of outer planet semisquare and sesquiquadrate transits. On this website, these transits will link to square explanations - just understand that expected effects are likely to be on the soft side of explanations provided.

Some transits happen only once in several lifetimes, though perhaps effectively for an entire year or two when they do. Other transits happen several times in a life, for only a couple of weeks each time. Because of the phenomenon of apparent retrograde, most transits occur a couple or three times in succession. At times many transits may overlap one another and during other rare periods no major transit may be in effect.

In addition to one's personal transits, it is prudent to be aware of astrological events such as Mercury retrograde and the monthly lunar cycle that everyone else is experiencing as well.
